delhi university is working on framing standard operating procedures (sops) for the phased return of final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students with officials also hinting that the next semester may be taught offline.

Indira gandhi national open university has partially released the results of students who had appeared in the june 2020 term-end examination held for final year/end semester students.

The supreme court had last week upheld the ugc guidelines and said that no state and university can promote students in the final year/terminal semester without conducting examinations.

Speaking at a press conference here, he said these informal classes will be on till september 30, but it will be discontinued if any student or teacher tests positive in between.

Union minister of education ramesh pokhriyal nishank on monday said the decision by the ugc to carry out final year examinations has been taken while keeping in mind the future of students.

Students should continue with their preparation for the final year university examinations scheduled to be held by the end of september 30 and should not harbour any misconception that the supreme court will stay the exams, the university grants commission (ugc) told the top court on friday.

The ugc also submitted before the apex court that the decision has been taken keeping in mind the health and safety of students and courts should not normally intervene in academic decisions and policies concerning standards and quality of education.

Along with direct recruitment, the final year students of lab technician courses, science students of rguhs and volunteers will be given proper training before being assigned covid duties.

A fresh notification for the examination along with the revised date sheet and other information will be provided on the official website of the university in due course of time.

Union hrd minister ramesh pokhriyal nishank has asked the university grants commission (ugc) to revisit the guidelines issued earlier for intermediate and terminal semester examination, and the academic calendar.

The petitioners, represented by senior advocate j p sengh and advocate ayushi chugh, also claimed that there was no way to find out who was cheating when open book online exams are held.

All the examinations will be conducted in three sessions in a day including sundays, with a duration of two hours.

This decision comes less than a week after a university grants commission (ugc) appointed committee released a report suggesting a similar moves to universities across the country.
